Jacob Turns One!!

I’m still trying to figure out how this is possible. This has been the fastest year of my life. It feels like I went to sleep with a newborn and woke up with a one year old. Don’t get me wrong, we have had our fair share of long days and nights. While we were in the moment time went by so slow but looking back it went by like the blink of an eye. I guess they say time flies when you’re having fun.

Jacob now has his own little personality and quirks. Here are some facts about him at a year old:

Teeth: he has 6 teeth and more are coming in.

Likes: Smiling. Clapping his hands. Playing “boo”. Splashing in the water. Kissing Mama and Dada. Kissing his bunny. Saying “Dadadada”. His toys that make noises. Being chased after. Sitting outside in his blue chair. Swinging. His bunny.

Dislikes: He hates when anyone leaves the room. Staying still. His changing table.

Favorite foods: Green beans. Carrots. Strawberry yogurt. Grilled cheese. Applesauce. Sweet potatoes. Watermelon.

Words: LOVES to say Dada. Mama. Guuuhh ( we think this means goose). Sign language for the words “milk” and “more”.

Here is Jacob at about a week old:

Four Letter Word- #!?$

Fear can completely cripple you, deprive you of happiness, and keep you from going after your hopes and dreams. Not only that, but did you know that fear can make you physically sick?

Each time you feel fear, it triggers something called the “fight-or-flight” stress response in your body. If there is a cumulative buildup of the stress hormone, it can lead to disorders in our automatic nervous system. This can cause IBS, headaches, high blood pressure, etc. I don’t know about you but this makes me afraid of fear! How is that even possible?

The time that I feel the most fearful is at night, right before I fall asleep. Sometimes I can lay there and the thoughts of my deepest fears creep to the surface. It’s not the darkness that causes this fear, it’s the silence of the night. When I start to worry and let the fear come in, that’s when I start praying. I pray that my husband comes home safely after his shift, I pray for my son, I pray for my family members and friends, I pray for peace. If all else fails, I turn on Nick at Night and watch episodes of Full House, Friends and Fresh Prince of Bel Air until I drift off into sleep.

I like to call fear a four letter word because I tend to make situations ten times worse in my mind because of it. I can get myself all in a tizzy worrying about things that are out of my control. What I’ve realized is that most of the time you just have to let go and let God take care of you. Let your faith carry you.

Happy Monday Y’all!

Don’t worry. Be happy.

My husband is about to officially begin his career as a law enforcement officer. I’m so proud of him and I’m so excited for him.  I’m not afraid to admit that I am understandably nervous about him and his new career. One of my biggest flaws is that I am a huge worrier about the things that I cannot control. I worry waayyyyy too much and often wonder how i can I get past this.

I’m going to do some things to try and stop these worried thoughts. I will call this my “worrier bucket list”.
–          Stop thinking about the “what ifs?”
–          Be positive and don’t dwell on the negative.
–          Find a hobby. Maybe I’ll learn to knit. Or at least learn something new.
–          Find a church and PRAY A LOT.
–          Read more. It will take your mind of things.
–          No emotional eating.
–          Take more gym classes. Endorphins make your happier right?
–          Make new friends and keep up with the old.
–          Work harder.
–          Be present with the people in my life when we are together. Less iphone time.
–          Remind myself that everything is temporary.
–          Listen to positive pod cast.
–          Smile more.

Comparison is the Thief of Joy.

It’s so easy to get down on yourself sometimes. Life can get you down but I want you to remember that you are something special. I know we all have those days where we beat ourselves up. Yesterday was mine. As my husband says, sometimes you just have to pull up your pants on one leg at a time and just get going. Do something to make yourself feel better.

One thing I can be really bad about is comparing myself to others. This is a huge flaw and I hate it.  I know a lot of people have this problem but I have to tell you something that i’ve realized and that is…. Comparison is the thief of joy. It’s true. Someone is always going to be doing more than you. Someone is always going to be skinnier than you. Someone is always going to be smarter than you. Someone is always going to have more than you. Remember, this does not mean that they are better than you in any way.

When you start to have a pity party on how everyone is soooo much better than you, think about how far you’ve come. Think about how lucky YOU are.  Think about everything you’ve accomplished in your life. When that doesn’t work, think about how your best days are in front of you and not behind you. Put away those tissues and put on a smile, dear, because you are one of a kind.

Just a reminder on this Monday, everyone is fighting their own battle. Be thankful that you are alive because tomorrow is not a guarantee.

Comparison

Happy Monday!!
