Here’s to all the mamas!

Mother’s Day is right around the corner! This will be my very first Mother’s Day being a Mom myself. Being Jacob’s Mama has been one of the best gifts that God has given me. He has tested my patience, filled my heart with so much love and made me learn a lot more about myself. I never fully realized how much my mom loved me until the day I met Jacob.

Mother’s Day is a great time to show a Mom in your life how much she means to you and celebrate the person she is. Here are some gift ideas to make her feel special:

The Mother of All Mothers

Photo Album: Am I still the only one who collects actual photos still? Shutterfly makes it way too easy with their promotions of free 4×6 prints. I’ve accumulated hundreds of photos that need to go in albums. One of my favorite things to do is go through old photos and look back at great memories.

Bath Products: I love taking a nice hot bath to relax after a long day. This is a great gift for moms who love to soak in the tub!

Candles: I always have candles burning in our home. Different scents can help you feel relaxed and make you feel at ease. The candles from Aveda will make your home smell like a spa. Who wouldn’t want that?!

Coffee Mug: Each morning when I wake up I look forward to having my cup of joe. You could call it mama fuel because I know a lot of moms who run off their daily coffee fix.

Birthstone Eternity Ring: I have an alexandrite eternity ring in honor of my son who was born in the month of June. It’s one of my favorite pieces that I wear every single day!

A Manicure: Because who doesn’t love to be pampered and get their nails done?

Monogram: Anything monogram is always a great gift. Necklace, earrings, bags, shirts, anything monogrammed.

Her Favorite Perfume: A scent can bring back a memory or make you think of your favorite person. Whenever I smell the perfume “Angel” on someone I immediately think of my mom. I personally love the smell by Marc Jacobs, “Daisy”.

Flowers: I love having fresh flowers in my home and my favorite flower is the hydrangea. We used these in our wedding so they have sentimental value ( hint hint Brian).

Wine: I vote champagne.

Fun T-shirt: I have seen this “Mama Bear” shirt all over pintrest and I just think its too cute!

Earrings: Pearl earrings are classic and I love the idea of having a pair of earrings to remind me of a special day.

When picking out a gift for that special mom in your life, remember that it’s truly the thought that counts.

Four Letter Word- #!?$

Fear can completely cripple you, deprive you of happiness, and keep you from going after your hopes and dreams. Not only that, but did you know that fear can make you physically sick?

Each time you feel fear, it triggers something called the “fight-or-flight” stress response in your body. If there is a cumulative buildup of the stress hormone, it can lead to disorders in our automatic nervous system. This can cause IBS, headaches, high blood pressure, etc. I don’t know about you but this makes me afraid of fear! How is that even possible?

The time that I feel the most fearful is at night, right before I fall asleep. Sometimes I can lay there and the thoughts of my deepest fears creep to the surface. It’s not the darkness that causes this fear, it’s the silence of the night. When I start to worry and let the fear come in, that’s when I start praying. I pray that my husband comes home safely after his shift, I pray for my son, I pray for my family members and friends, I pray for peace. If all else fails, I turn on Nick at Night and watch episodes of Full House, Friends and Fresh Prince of Bel Air until I drift off into sleep.

I like to call fear a four letter word because I tend to make situations ten times worse in my mind because of it. I can get myself all in a tizzy worrying about things that are out of my control. What I’ve realized is that most of the time you just have to let go and let God take care of you. Let your faith carry you.

Happy Monday Y’all!

Don’t worry. Be happy.

My husband is about to officially begin his career as a law enforcement officer. I’m so proud of him and I’m so excited for him.  I’m not afraid to admit that I am understandably nervous about him and his new career. One of my biggest flaws is that I am a huge worrier about the things that I cannot control. I worry waayyyyy too much and often wonder how i can I get past this.

I’m going to do some things to try and stop these worried thoughts. I will call this my “worrier bucket list”.
–          Stop thinking about the “what ifs?”
–          Be positive and don’t dwell on the negative.
–          Find a hobby. Maybe I’ll learn to knit. Or at least learn something new.
–          Find a church and PRAY A LOT.
–          Read more. It will take your mind of things.
–          No emotional eating.
–          Take more gym classes. Endorphins make your happier right?
–          Make new friends and keep up with the old.
–          Work harder.
–          Be present with the people in my life when we are together. Less iphone time.
–          Remind myself that everything is temporary.
–          Listen to positive pod cast.
–          Smile more.

Comparison is the Thief of Joy.

It’s so easy to get down on yourself sometimes. Life can get you down but I want you to remember that you are something special. I know we all have those days where we beat ourselves up. Yesterday was mine. As my husband says, sometimes you just have to pull up your pants on one leg at a time and just get going. Do something to make yourself feel better.

One thing I can be really bad about is comparing myself to others. This is a huge flaw and I hate it.  I know a lot of people have this problem but I have to tell you something that i’ve realized and that is…. Comparison is the thief of joy. It’s true. Someone is always going to be doing more than you. Someone is always going to be skinnier than you. Someone is always going to be smarter than you. Someone is always going to have more than you. Remember, this does not mean that they are better than you in any way.

When you start to have a pity party on how everyone is soooo much better than you, think about how far you’ve come. Think about how lucky YOU are.  Think about everything you’ve accomplished in your life. When that doesn’t work, think about how your best days are in front of you and not behind you. Put away those tissues and put on a smile, dear, because you are one of a kind.

Just a reminder on this Monday, everyone is fighting their own battle. Be thankful that you are alive because tomorrow is not a guarantee.

Comparison

Happy Monday!!
