So as you know, I’m getting married in 2 months, 0 weeks, 0 days…not like I’m counting down or anything. Anyways, I started wondering what are the top wedding trends of 2014?? What the heck are other girls planning for their big day?!
I knew I had the perfect person to ask!!! No one else but my friend Leah who writes for a local wedding magazine and has an adorable blog herself called The Organized Chicken.
Thanks Leah and take it away!
Hey y’all! I’m Leah, a 24-year-old newlywed living in Chapel Hill, NC. I write for a local wedding magazine, so when Lauren asked me to do a guest post about weddings, I was thrilled. I absolutely adore everything about weddings, they’re just one of my favorite things!
Here are the five top wedding trends for 2014 that I’ve seen popping up on runways and in bridal collections lately.
Blush gowns have been gaining popularity over the last several years, and while they’re still cropping up on bridal salons, many designers are starting to embrace bolder, more vibrant colors – think bright pinks, glamorous golds, and even color-blocking in dramatically different hues, like black and white gowns from Vera Wang Spring 2014 Collection.
For brides who aren’t quite ready to commit to a colored gown, dresses with metallic details are an absolutely gorgeous alternative. Now that 1920s style is back (thanks to the remake of The Great Gatsby), gold is reaching a level of popularity it hasn’t seen in years. I love how gold detailing, like elaborate beading, can evoke vintage glamour and add wonderful texture. You’ll definitely steal the show under the lights at the reception!
Illusion necklines are here to stay! These can be as simple or as detailed as you like, but all can elevate a run-of-the-mill gown to something soft, romantic and demure.
Thanks to Princess Kate, sleeves are back in full force. Not only are cap sleeves gaining popularity, but full lace sleeves have been popping up in many designers’ new collections as well. Sleeves add unparalleled class to a dress, and can be an incredibly romantic detail – not to mention they’ll keep you warmer in the fall and winter months!
Eye Catching Backs
This is one of the biggest (and in my opinion, the best) trends of the year. Designers are going with simple, clean lines on the front of the dress, only to reveal plunging backs, lace overlays, cut outs, and beaded details in the back. This is a fantastic way to make a statement with your wedding gown while still being classic and elegant.
